The documentary film "Bern – since 1191" on DVD
Exploited as a political symbol and tourist attraction, the bears endured nearly 500 years in the bernese Bear-Pit. Cubs were bred for the entertainment of the public and ended up as a delicacy on the tables of city presidents. As late as 2009 was, with the Bear-Park, a new era for the heraldic animal introduced. Over 2.4 million visitors made the pilgrimage to the new symbol of Bern in the first year.
The bears were, and are until today, an emblem for the swiss capital city and an emotional center of the city. "Bärn" tells this worldwide unique story of the city of Bern's bear-keeping in an emotional documentary film.
